Speak for the Malayan Tigers
Malayan Tiger or Harimau Malaya is a Malaysian icon. In the natural ecosystem, the Malayan tiger is an umbrella species. This means, in which by conserving tigers, other species in the same ecosystem such as sunbear and hornbills will also be conserved. Its role as a predator in the rainforest ecosystem helps to control over-population of the prey species, such as wild-boar.
In Malaysia, reports indicated that there are only several hundreds of individual left in the wild. Malaysian Nature Society has long initiated tiger conservation activities. MNS is part of the Malaysian Conservatio Aliances for Tigers (MYCAT) together with WWF, WCS and Department of Wildlife.
In addition to that, MNS is working with local community in wildlife corridoor i Sg Yu Merapoh. Local community were empowered to conduct wildlife monitoring. In addition to that, reforestation (tree planting) at wildlife corridor in Sg. Yu, Merapoh, to rehabilitate degraded rainforest, were undertaken with local community.
MNS has established the Tiger Conservation Fund to fund raise specifically for Conservation, Education and Public Awareness activities related to the Malayan Tigers. When you "Speak for the Malayan Tigers" by purchasing this t-shirt, RM 5 will be channeled to the Tiger Conservation Fund.
